2nd Spring School on Properties, Design and Applications of Upconversion Nanomaterials (UPCON´18)

VALENCIA, 2nd-4th APRIL 2018

The 2nd Spring School on Properties, Design and Applications of Upconversion Nanomaterials, which will be held from the 2nd to the 4th of April 2018 in Valencia, Spain. It will consist of one full day of practical sections to be held in the chemistry labs (Molecular Science Institute ICMol) and the Central Service of Support to the Experimental Research (SCSIE) at the Burjassot Campus of the University of Valencia; interesting lectures given by experts from different research fields will be hosted at The Botanical Gardens of Valencia the following day and a half.

This course is focused on surface modification and characterization of Upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and it will be a unique opportunity for graduate students to get first-hand training on the surface modification and characterization of up-converting nanoparticles.

Objectives

After participating in this course consisting of hands-on experiments, formal lectures, and discussion generated by the students and teachers, the participant will be able to:

1. To perform surface functionalization of UCNPs and further characterization: TEM, IR, UV-Vis, Luminescence…

2. To understand how to use confocal microscopy to measure upconversion lifetimes and to evaluate sample homogeneity

3. To evaluate NIR-induced singlet oxygen detection

There will also be an opportunity to present shortly your own work for discussion.

Who should attend?

Graduate students working on UCNPs. A basic knowledge of spectroscopy is required.
